Sparrow Village

Above is a photo of Sparrow Village. Sparrow Village is a hospice that cares for some 270 HIV orphans in Roodeport, South Africa. They help children learn how to sustain themselves as well as obtain an education so that they can better integrate with society and live independently when they are older. More information about Sparrow can be found at http://www.sparrowvillage.co.za

In less than 6 weeks Michael Majetich and I will be spending a lot of time tutoring Sparrow's children with the goal of helping them finish school. Many reach the age of 16 and do not know how to read or tell time. Some have courageously excelled in school but need a lot of help with the Afrikaans language in order to matriculate and attend the colleges they have themselves worked hard to get into. We are able to offer these children 4.5 months of our love and attention and will see them through to the end of the school year in South Africa...

In a few weeks we will be packing our bags and preparing for the long flight to South Africa. Its so exciting to be able to show Michael where I grew up, but more importantly, its wonderful that we will be able to spend that time impacting the lives of children who rarely get the attention they need and want.

Wish us luck!
